Heroes Breakfast

This was a great week for seeing what Rotary clubs do in support of other organizations  which exemplify “Service above Self”.

December the 8th. American Red Cross 2011 Real Heroes Breakfast. This organization recognizes those who have gone above and beyond in helping others. Many saved lives while doing so. Individuals were nominated for their acts of bravery, compassion and heroism. Each were presented with an award for their selfless acts of courage by sponsors. I was privileged to represent Rotary. The Rotary clubs of Marysville Sunrise, Marysville, Everett-Port Gardner, Everett, Snohomish and South Everett Muilteo support of this wonderful event.

Dec 9th. "The  Noon Rotary Club of Oak Harbor, and the Oak Harbor Area Council of the Navy League,  got together 38 years ago to recognize the very best and brightest of the enlisted men and women at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.  They decided to collaboratively sponsor an annual Awards Ceremony that publicly recognizes two sailors and a marine at an end-of-year Friday ceremony.

To accomplish that selection every year, all Units and Commands on Whidbey Island Naval Air Station selects a Sailor of the Year, while Marine Corp units on the base select a Marine of the Year.

The ‘Awards Ceremony’ takes place at the NAS Whidbey Officers Club over the noon hour in a luncheon setting, with a well executed buffet spread.  All three service members are presented with a plaque and a variety of gifts from private commercial and retail companies. Their final honor of the day is a proclamation by Oak Harbor Mayor, who proclaims Friday as their day, each by name, in Oak Harbor -in recognition of their achievements.  Each of the three service-members gets a copy of the proclamation."
Again, I was privileged to attend this ceremony.
