A Holiday Note

Family Month celebrates the family of Rotary, which, in addition to individual Rotarians, includes all of those who are involved in Rotary's work from Rotary Foundation program alumni to participants in Rotary youth programs in thousands of communities around the world.
Spouses and children of Rotarians play a vital role in Rotary too. Rotary clubs benefit immensely when they strive to achieve a balanced interaction between Rotarians and their families, enhancing home lives and family interactions.

This Rotary year the emphasis is on family. Is there peace and harmony in your family? If not what do you need to do to make that happen? Family comes first, if all is well in the family unit, then we are able to reach out to our communities. Christmas is a great time to involve our families in this endeavor. We serve by example, how about the whole family serving at a soup kitchen, gifts for needy families, food for the needy etc. There are many ways we can be of service to others during the holidays. Let's get involved and make the holidays better for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Where has the year gone? Now is the time to reflect. Did we make a difference in the world or in someone else's life? If we as Rotarians worked in our clubs on community projects, fund raisers, or any of the many service projects we do, then we know we have made a difference. If we have given to the Foundation for annual giving or polio plus, be assured a difference has been made and lives are better for it.

As the year comes to a close, it is time for renewal of our dues and commitment  If you find that you are a member of your Rotary club in name only, a member who just shows up for meetings and meals or find that you are not an active member of committees, leadership, programs, fundraisers or any of the many opportunities to serve, then maybe it is time for you to ask yourself if this is the right organization to be involved in.  We join Rotary to be of service to our local and global community. We can only do this by actively participating. It may be that you have a passion for something that is not being done. Approach others in your club to get something going that serves your passion and those less fortunate. If you just cannot find anything at your local club or the District level then perhaps it is time to assess your reasons for belonging to Rotary at this time in your life. Please become active in “service above self” in order that service is truly met.

I wish all of you a happy blessed Christmas. May peace and goodwill be yours throughout the coming year.
